Barbara Edington
Barbara Edington has recently joined the Tabb Group as the Director of the Business Value Management Practice.
Prior to joining The Tabb Group, Barbara spent 20 years in the investment industry where she learned first hand about the importance of business and technology alignment. She has managed major investment and operational projects in her work at SEI where she was responsible for the development and launch of several proprietary mutual funds and packaged asset allocation programs. She directed the project from the senior management level and led cross-functional activities to deliver asset conversions for launch, back office shareholder and accounting system integration as well as legal and marketing functions in order to meet requirements on-time and on-budget. She also consulted with banks and financial institutions to help them develop their mutual fund and retail investment program strategy. As a facilitator, worked with multi-disciplinary groups to develop new marketing directions, solve business process issues and improve rapport between functional areas tasked with a new project.
At Goldman Sachs, where one of Barbara"s assignments was as an Executive Director in the Asset Management Division in the London office, she was responsible for offshore product development which included the technology integration, multi-national project development, web site creation and project oversight of mutual fund Euro-conversion. She was also responsible for packaged product development including an asset allocation program which required integrated technology solutions, differential service levels and training module creation.
As a doctoral student at Pace University, Barbara"s research is in the interdisciplinary area of management and technology where she is focusing on a qualitative approach to assessing the business value of IT. The conversion effectiveness associated with technology is one of the key areas which ultimately impact the return on IT investments and the human element of managing that conversion is of particular interest.
Barbara is also an adjunct professor in Computer Science and Information Systems at Pace University. She has developed a graduate level course entitled "Corporate Survival Guide for Technologists" which is aimed at developing the business and financial skills of computer science students. She has also conducted extensive training within the corporate environment and she is an instructor at Baruch College.
An active member of the community, Barbara is also involved in the inaugural event for TrendSetters Network, a volunteer effort to create a symposium and on-line learning tool for young girls interested in science and technology careers.
